How to dry mahogany
Mahogany furniture is a kind of high-end durable consumer goods, and its production is a very particular knowledge. Commonly used mahogany drying methods
In the current production of mahogany furniture, there are several commonly used drying methods for mahogany materials.
Small boiling (steaming) drying treatment method. Some small-scale mahogany furniture factories usually use the method of putting the sawed wood in the pool to boil (steam) for a period of time and then drying it in the drying room due to the limitations of funds and equipment. Wing wood, improper treatment will affect the quality of wood drying.
Heat energy drying treatment method. Boiler heat or electric heating is used to bake wood, but it is difficult to control the humidity and wood moisture content in this type of drying. Improper drying will also lead to the destruction of wood fiber structure (wood strength weakening) due to uneven release of wood internal stress. Certain drying experience is required to meet the drying requirements, and it is suitable for drying hard and heavy wood such as wenge.
Steam drying treatment. Due to the drying process and batch requirements, mahogany furniture factories with a certain scale use boiler steam for high-temperature and high-humidity degreasing and drying, so that the moisture content of the wood can meet the specified requirements (the moisture content of the wood when leaving the kiln is below 12%, and the moisture content of the board is 6-10%. %). The selection of wood drying standards and wood regaining health are also different due to different materials. However, the moisture content of the finished furniture made of mahogany after steam drying can generally meet the quality requirements.
Some mahogany furniture manufacturers have used (experimental) microwave drying and other methods to treat wood, but they have not put it into mass production due to high cost and technical difficulty.
