What is carbonized wood?
Carbonized wood is wood that is subjected to short-term pyrolysis modification treatment at a temperature of 180°C to 250°C in order to improve the dimensional stability and durability of wood in an environment that blocks oxidation and hydrolysis reactions. Ordinary wood is full of nutrients and becomes a place for mold parasites. It lacks corrosion resistance. All the nutrients in the wood treated by high-temperature carbonization technology are precipitated, and mold has no nutritional source, so it has excellent anti-corrosion and insect-proof functions. The reorganization of water-absorbing functional groups makes the product have better physical properties. The deep carbonized wood has the same color inside and outside, the texture is clear and shiny.
Carbonized wood is divided into surface carbonized wood and deep carbonized wood.
The surface carbonized wood is grilled with an oxygen welding torch, so that the surface of the wood has a thin carbonized layer. The change in the properties of the wood can be analogous to the paint of the wood, but it can highlight the uneven wood grain on the surface and produce a three-dimensional effect. Applications focus on handicrafts, decoration materials and aquarium tank products. Also known as process carbonized wood, charcoal-fired wood.
Deep carbonized wood is also called fully carbonized wood and homogeneous carbonized wood. It is wood treated by high-temperature carbonization technology of about 200 degrees. Because its nutrients are destroyed, it has better anti-corrosion and insect-proof functions. Because its water-absorbing functional group hemicellulose is reorganized, the product has better physical properties. Carbonized preservative wood is a real green environmental protection product. Although the product has anti-corrosion and insect-proof properties, it does not contain any harmful substances, which not only improves the service life of wood, but also does not cause waste in the production process and after use. , animals and the environment in any negative way.
Carbonized wood can be finished and maintained in the same way as untreated wood when used in interior floors, furniture and trim. Generally, the penetration of wood protectants into wood can be improved by polishing or brushing. In addition, surface maintenance is easier due to the excellent stability and moisture resistance of carbonized wood. Generally speaking, carbonized wood does not need special protection treatment for indoor use. If it needs to be treated, it can be protected by painting, waxing or oiling.
When carbonized wood is used outdoors, it is recommended to use an outdoor wood paint that is slightly darker than the natural color of carbonized wood, and to use translucent wood paint and wood wax oil. To reduce or prevent lightening or graying of the wood surface due to ultraviolet radiation from the sun, use an outdoor wood paint and maintain it in the same way as other ordinary wood maintenance. Before maintenance, the wood surface should be cleaned and dried.
Attention should be paid to the use of carbonized wood: carbonized wood is not suitable for immersion in water or contact with soil. In addition, in order to reduce moisture from entering the carbonized wood from the end and prevent the end from cracking, the end of the carbonized wood should be protected.
